Governor Greg Abbott participated in a check presentation event organized by the Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund, where $25,000 checks were distributed to families affected by recent severe flooding in the Hill Country. The funds were raised during last month’s “Strait to the Heart” benefit concert, an event hosted by musician George Strait and Estancia Estates Founder Tom Cusick. The aim is to assist families who experienced significant property damage or lost their homes due to the floods.
“We as a State are working tirelessly to make sure that the recovery process is as easy and effective as possible,” said Governor Abbott. “If you have a need in your area, let us know. There are a lot of people here to assist you with those needs. These checks will help you piece your lives back together, and there’s more help on the way.”
After his remarks at the event, Governor Abbott spoke directly with residents whose homes had been damaged or destroyed by floodwaters, assuring them of ongoing state support until full recovery is achieved.
Also present at the ceremony were Representative Wes Virdell, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, and Tom Cusick. Last month’s benefit concert attended by Governor Abbott generated over $6 million for relief efforts aimed at supporting Texans impacted by the disaster.
