Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) will collaborate with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to conduct joint preliminary damage assessments in South Texas. This initiative follows severe storms that recently impacted the region. The assessments aim to evaluate if Texas qualifies for federal disaster assistance.

“As South Texas communities recover from last week’s storm damage, the State of Texas continues to provide all necessary resources to help Texans rebuild,” Governor Abbott stated. He emphasized the importance of these assessments in determining eligibility for low-interest loans and encouraged affected residents to report damage via the iSTAT survey. “I thank all emergency management personnel who are working tirelessly to help their fellow Texans move forward.”

Texans are urged to self-report storm damage through TDEM’s Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). Information collected is crucial for identifying impacted areas and facilitating resource allocation.

Prior to the storms, Governor Abbott had already activated state emergency response resources, underscoring his administration’s commitment to supporting local officials and first responders during severe weather events.
