Governor Greg Abbott has announced the renewal of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s (HHSC) Healthy Texas Women federal Medicaid demonstration waiver. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have approved the extension, which will last until June 30, 2030.

“During this year’s successful legislative session, we passed record funding for Healthy Texas Women to ensure that women across our great state continue to have access to essential health services,” stated Governor Abbott. “By securing this waiver extension through 2030, Texas will further support the health and well-being of women, especially those most vulnerable amongst us. I thank President Donald Trump and his Administration for approving this waiver and supporting our state’s efforts to provide high-quality healthcare to Texas women and foster a culture of life.”

HHS Executive Commissioner Cecile Erwin Young expressed gratitude towards Governor Abbott and the Texas Legislature for their continued support in providing crucial preventive and family planning services to Texas women.

The Healthy Texas Women program offers various services including pregnancy testing, contraception, screening and treatment for postpartum depression, as well as breast and cervical cancer screenings. These services are available to eligible low-income women in Texas.

Women who qualify will continue receiving these benefits through Healthy Texas Women, while enrolled providers will maintain reimbursement for covered services. In fiscal year 2023, an average of over 430,000 women were enrolled in the program.

For more information on Healthy Texas Women or other HHSC programs and services, residents can visit the HHSC website or contact them by dialing 2-1-1. Social media updates are also available from HHSC.
