Republican gubernatorial candidate Don Huffines is speaking out against teaching critical race theory in Texas schools.

Huffines will face Gov. Greg Abbott in the gubernatorial GOP primary set for March 1. “From critical race theory being established at the University of Texas at Austin to the Department of Family and Protective Services, one thing is clear: critical race theory is a disgusting Marxist ideology that is dedicated to pitting Texans against each other and dividing our state,” Huffines said.

Critical race theory has been a political drumbeat for conservatives across the country.

“If I was your governor, CRT would already be eradicated from the state of Texas,” Huffines said. “No exceptions. CRT has no place in Texas, let alone in our state agencies or our schools. Greg Abbott must immediately call a special session of the Texas Legislature to weed out this poison from not only the Department of Family and Protective Services but every agency and university in our state.”

Critics of critical race theory argue the concept is inherently racist against the white demographic.

Huffines, a Republican who represented Texas’ 16th state Senate District from 2015 to 2019, operates Huffines Communities, a real estate development company in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
